Food is an exquisite commodity we all enjoy as humans around the world. Wherever a passionate or commercial delight, anyone can create, experiment and even inspire with. From a simple entrée to a gourmet main course, there are many options to choose from.

Unfortunately, 2022 has been a horrible year economically, with the cost-of-living skyrocketing to the roof as everything is expensive with no end in sight. Purchasing fruit, vegetables, meat, poultry and even snacked goodies are mind-blowingly becoming to where owning a house will eventually be the next currency to buy basic groceries.

Students, struggling families and those in need; I bless my prayers to you.

No, I’m not Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay. But I am a humble someone who has discovered neat little hacks to make basic meals just a tincy bit more fantastic, especially those on a budget.

In this series of weekly articles, I wish to present those who want to cook delicious, quick, budget and quantity-friendly recipes I use every day to get through and get by in my life.

I will update these entries of recipes as regularly as possible which IRL, I am exploring new recipes that I can master and one day, you can too!

In this entry, we shall explore how to turn 2-minute Mi Goreng noodles into a dish almost resembling something you can get from an Indonesian restaurant. Okay, not quite; but you can’t blame a fella for trying though?

Ingredients:

  • Maggi’s Fusian Mi Goreng Hot and Spicy Noodles 12pk =$9(sometimes $8 on special at Woolworths)
  • 200g Woolworths Leafy Mix Salad= $3
  • 210ml Ayam Black Bean Sauce=$4
  • 170g Masterfoods Garlic Finely Crushed=$3
  • 25g Masterfoods Ginger Ground=$2.55
  • 23g Woolworths Chili Flakes Hot =$1.70
  • 750g Woolworths Himalayan Pink Salt= $4.70

= $27.90

(The hack to this is that this actually can be repeated a bunch of times using the same ingredients and can last up to longer than a week!)

Step by Step:

-Step 1: Grab a small to medium-sized pot and layer the base with 1 tablespoon of powdered ginger, minced garlic and 4–5 gentle pinches of salt.

-Step 2: Add chilli flakes to the pot (depending on your spices tolerance, add a minimal or moderate amount to your personal taste)

-Step 3: Add a 1–1 ¼ tablespoon of black bean sauce to the base of the pot and mix everything around to gain the flavour.

-Step 4: Open 1 packet of noodles and place on top of the mixture in the pot. Then add the packaged mixtures with the pack of noodles on top of the noodles in the pot.

-Step 5: Add hot water to the pot until it covers the top of noodles and place onto the stove at 200 degrees heat. Cook noodles for 2–5 minutes.

-Step 6: Grab a bowl and add a leafy salad mix to it by covering at least between halfway to three quarters of the bowl. Push leafy mix down in the bowl so it adds space for noodles.

Step 7: Serve noodles in the bowl and add enough noodle juice in the bowl for extra flavour.

Voila! You have yourself a bowl of delicious Mi Goreng noodles with a healthy leafy mix!
